He studied Economics at the University of Athens and received a Masters degree in the University of Newcastle. Since 1988, he is a Professor of Political Economy in the University of Crete.
In the past, he has collaborated with the Center for European Studies, Harvard University and with the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Queens College, City University of New York.
He is a member of the Hellenic Parliament with SYRIZAand Vice – Rector of the University of Crete.
He is married with Themis Geckou and has two children.
