Ms Fofi Genimata was born in Athens in 1964. She studied Political Science and Public Administration at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. Ms Genimata currently holds the office of the President of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), having been elected on 14th June 2015, while she is the Head of the Μοvement for Change.
Following the elections held in November 2017, Ms Genimata was elected Leader of the new Centre-Left political body in Greece uniting movements and parties from the wider spectrum of social democracy, democratic left and political liberalism. She serves as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Athens B electoral prefecture since September 2015, having been elected twice before in 2000-2002 and in January 2015.
Throughout her political career Ms Genimata has held numerous government offices. In 2009 she was appointed as Vice Minister of Health and Social Solidarity. From 2010 to 2011 she held the office of the Alternate Minister of Education and Lifelong Learning, while in 2011-2012 she served as Alternate Minister of the Interior. For two years (January 2013 – January 2015) she was Alternate Minister of National Defense.
Ms Genimata exhibits a long and active presence in the field of local administration. In 2003 she was elected Super-Prefect for Athens and Piraeus, serving until 2007. During the same period she acted as President of the Prefectures Union of Greece.
Since 1996 Ms Genimata is the Chairman of the «Georgios Genimatas Association», devoted to the memory of her late father, who served as Minister in the decades of 1980 and 1990.
